Froid/Lake Comes Away With Title At Big Muddy Tournament
The Froid/Lake Reds went through the Big Muddy baseball tournament undefeated to win the league championship during action in Plentywood on Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30.
The Reds’ biggest challenge of the tournament came in the first round when the Reds needed to battle back for a 4-3 victory over Scobey.
Down by a 3-0 margin entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Lane McDowell opened the frame with a walk. McDowell stole two bases and then scored on a passed ball. Easton Marottek reached on a walk and later crossed the plate on an error.
A grounder hit by Carson Aasheim resulted in Jett Murray scoring for a 3-3 deadlock.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Colton Nordwick singled to open the inning. He then stole two bases. When McDowell connected for a grounder to second, Nordwick crossed the plate with the winning run.
Marottek pitched the final three innings for the victory. Also pitching for the Reds were Aasheim and Jax Ator.
Murray led the Reds with two hits.
The Reds then downed Plentywood by a 9-1 margin on Saturday, June 29.
Froid/Lake gained a 5-0 advantage during the first four innings. The Reds then ran off four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 9-1 lead.
Lyle Larson accounted for two of the Reds’ hits.
Scoring two runs each for Froid/Lake were Aasheim, Aaron Orozco, Larson and Nordwick.
Knocking in two runs each were Orozco and Larson.
Pitching for the Reds were Avery Webster, Aasheim, Orozco and Marottek.
The Reds stopped Plentywood, 17-0, in the championship game on Sunday, June 30.
After taking a 4-0 lead during the first two innings, the Reds exploded for 11 runs in the third inning.
Kline Fossum had two hits in the victory.
Orozco scored three times. Adding two runs each were Aasheim, Fossum, Ator and Marottek.
Orozco pitched four innings for the victory. He allowed only one hit and struck-out five batters.
Scobey placed third in the tournament held in Plentywood.
