Hunter, Moore Among Winners Culbertson Approves Bathhouse Levy

Culbertson voters approved a special levy for a new bathhouse at the Culbertson swimming pool during the election held on Tuesday, June 4.

The request was approved by a 123-86 margin. The levy language on the ballots asked for approximately $750,000 to build the structure, but current funds pledged and raised thus far amount to $507,000, reducing the burden to the town down to less then $200,000. The maximum adjusted total over five years will be $40,000 per year to the town, pending bids.

The night also featured contested Republican primary races for legislative seats.

In Senate District 15, Gregg Hunter defeated current House representative Rhonda Knudsen 62 percent to 38 percent. In Roosevelt County, Hunter received 329 votes compared to Knudsen’s 229 votes.

Valerie Moore won the primary election for House District 29 with 69 percent of the vote compared to Miles Knudsen’s 31 percent. Moore received 179 votes in Roosevelt County compared to Knudsen’s 83 votes.

Morgan Thiel, a Republican from Sidney, ran unopposed in House District 30 and received 1,489 total votes including 228 in Roosevelt County.

Republican primary winners for statewide elections included Tim Sheehy for U.S. senator, Troy Downing for U.S. representative for district 2, Ryan Zinke for U.S. representative for district 1, Greg Gianforte for governor, Christi Jacobsen for secretary of state, Austin Knudsen for attorney general, James Brown for state auditor, Susie Hedalen for state superintendent of public instruction and Bowen Greenwood for clerk of the supreme court.

Democrats winning statewide primary elections included Jon Tester for U.S. senator, John Driscoll for U.S. representative for district 2, Monica Tranel for U.S. representative for district 1, Ryan Busse for governor, Jesse Mullen for secretary of state, Ben Alke for attorney general, John Repke for state auditor, Shannon O’Brien for state superintendent of public instruction and Erin Farris-Olsen for clerk of the supreme court.

The top two candidates in the Supreme Court Justice #3 race were Katherine Bidegaray with 48 percent of the vote and Dan Wilson with 35 percent of the vote.
