TEB Votes To Hold Hearing On Conduct

The Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board voted to conduct a hearing regarding an ethical complaint against board member Stacey Summers. After much discussion, the board approved a resolution on Monday, March 23, by a 7-4 margin to conduct the hearing.

During the meeting, board member Bryce Kirk said the board isn’t allowed to discuss details of the case because the discussion previously was done in closed session. He said a hearing is the time to bring in witnesses and figure out whether or not there was a violation.

Board member Lawrence Hamilton told the board that all it was doing is moving forward by approving a resolution. “If it fails, then we’re done,” he added.

Board member Roxanne Gourneau pointed out, “By virtue of this vote, I don’t want anybody to minimize this. It’s basically saying that there’s enough evidence in this complaint to warrant this hearing.”

Once the vote was taken, the hearing date was set for April 15.

Board member Carolyn Brugh said the board has many projects to work on and they need to work together to achieve the goals. She said the hearing will only create hard feelings.

Gourneau said some participants are not the complainants, but they are leading the way by saying what can’t be said and what can’t be done.
