Froid/Lake’s boys’ basketball team came through in the fourth quarter to down North Country, 56-48, during loser-out action at the Eastern C divisional tournament on Thursday, Feb. 29.

The Red Hawks held a 3634 lead at the end of the third quarter, but a three-pointer by Kade Strommen put the Mavericks ahead 37-36 early in the fourth quarter.

Froid/Lake stepped up with the next six points on two drives by Nate Stentoft and a shot by Mason Dethman. After a basket by North Country’s Strommen, Stentoft accounted for a threepoint play for a 45-39 advantage.

Landon Kelm connected from three-point range to put the Red Hawks ahead 50-43 with four minutes to play.

The Mavericks stayed close on five points by Jake Brown, but hoops by Dethman and Daniel Forizs produced a 5448 margin.

Free throws by Stentoft and Dethman put the game away for the Red Hawks.

Leading the Red Hawks were Dethman with 26 and Stentoft with 19 points. Also scoring were Kelm with nine and Forzis with two points.

Leading North Country were Strommen with 15 and Blaine Downing with 12 points.

The Red Hawks trailed 1514 at the end of the first quarter but held a 30-25 half-time advantage. Kelm and Dethman each scored six points in the second quarter.

Baskets by Stentoft and Dethman put the Red Hawks up 36-28, but North Country scored the last six points of the third quarter.
