Filing Deadline Nears For Offices

With the deadline nearing for filing, there remains only one candidate for the Roosevelt County commissioner position up for election.

Former Roosevelt County sheriff and current Wolf Point city council member Dean Mahlum has filed for the position, currently held by Gary Macdonald. The long-time commissioner has announced that he is retiring from the position.

Mahlum’s experience includes one term as the Roosevelt County sheriff and about 50 years in law enforcement. He served for 20 years with the Wolf Point and Roosevelt County fire departments. He has been on the Wolf Point City Council during the last four years.

Filing deadline is Monday, March 11, at 5 p.m. at the Roosevelt County Clerk and Recorder’s Office.

Incumbent Jeri Toavs has filed for re-election for the office of district court clerk and county superintendent of schools. Former county attorney office and district court clerk office employee Erika Fyfe has also filed for the position.

Current clerk and recorder Tracy Miranda is the only candidate that has filed for that position.

Deputy county attorney Thomas Bleicher has filed for the county attorney position. Janet Christoffersen and Benjamin Fosland have filed for district judge.

Democrats Bridget Smith and Jonathan Windy Boy have filed for the state senator seat for District 16.

Democrats Frank Smith and Lance FourStar have filed for the House District 31 position. Smith is the incumbent in the office.
