Bainville Knocks Off Circle, 44-35
The Bainville Bulldogs advanced to Saturday night by downing Circle, 44-35, during action at the Eastern C divisional tournament on Saturday, March 2.
The Bulldogs put together an 8-0 run in the second quarter to take the lead for good. After trailing by a 10-6 margin, Bainville tied the game on consecutive baskets by Elsie Wilson off assists from Tally Berwick.
A basket by T. Berwick put Bainville ahead 12-10 with 3:28 left in the half. Two more baskets by Wilson and a free throw by Brecklyn Pippenger increased the margin to 17-10 to end the half.
Three-pointers by Kirsten Wagner and Madline Moline closed the gap to 20-18 during the first three minutes of the second half. The Bulldogs came right back with three points by T. Berwick.
Hailey Berwick and Miah Pippenger each connected from three-point range to put the Bulldogs up by a six-point margin.
The scoring of M. Pippenger and T. Berwick led Bainville to a 34-27 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
After Circle battled back to 37-32, Wilson came through with a drive and a 14-footer. Circle’s Kambrie Kountz hit a three-pointer for a 41-35 score with 1:22 remaining, but free throws by H. Berwick and Wilson put the contest away.
Leading Bainville’s attack were Wilson with 13, T. Berwick with 12 and H. Berwick with nine points.
Also scoring were M. Pippenger with five, B. Pippenger with three and Lila Butikofer with two.
T. Berwick grabbed 14 rebounds and also had a strong defensive game against Circle.
Top scorers for the Wildcats were Laura Goldborg with 14, Moline with seven and Kountz with six points.
Circle scored the game’s first four points and led 8-6 at the end of the opening quarter.
