Poplar’s girls’ basketball team put together a fantastic comeback, but the Indians fell just short against Glasgow, 56-53, at home on Friday, Feb. 2.

The Indians trailed by a 53-44 margin until Braelyn Nordwick hit a free throw with 58 seconds left to begin a comeback. After a steal by EmmaRae Martell, Nordwick scored for a 53-47 game.

Poplar kept the heat on when Nordwick scored after a steal by Mattie Falls Down with 43 seconds to play. The Scotties then lost the ball out-of-bounds, and Nordwick scored off a rebound to pull the Indians to 53-51 with 30 seconds remaining.

After Poplar’s full-court pressure produced another turnover, Nordwick drove in for the game-tying basket with 18 seconds left.

Glasgow went back ahead on a free throw by Kyndal Schraner with 13 seconds left. After Poplar missed on a shot attempt, Mayzie Yoakam added two free tosses with only a second left.

Poplar’s top scorers were Kessee Erickson with 13, Nordwick with 13 and Cammie Martell with 12 points.

Also scoring were E. Martell with five and Rikki Belton with four. Adding two points each were Bailey Dupree and Kyra Stormy.

Leading the Scotties were Tanae Baker with 14, Joely Chappell with 14 and Yoakam with 13 points.

Poplar led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter but trailed by a 24-21 half-time margin.

Glasgow accounted for the last seven points of the third quarter, including five points by Baker, for a 40-36 advantage.

A pull-up jumper by Falls Down kept Poplar close at 49-44 with 2:11 left, but Baker hit four free throws for a nine-point margin.
