Poplar’s boys’ basketball squad enjoyed a strong offensive night and won in Culbertson by a 76-41 final on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

The Indians jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter and increased the gap to 3914 at the half.

Poplar tallied 24 points in the third quarter for a 63-27 advantage.

Delray Lilley led the Indians with 24 points. Geordy Medicine Cloud added 11 points.

Also scoring for Poplar were Kaniel Ricker with eight, William Youngman with six, Walker Burshia with six, Wilder Bearcub with four, Kailen Erickson with four, Blake Lambert with three, Quinn Sutherland with two and Garyn Granger with two points.

Bridger Salvevold and Plenny Williams scored nine points each for the Cowboys.

Rounding out the scoring were Nyreece Halvorson with six, Donte Eagle Boy with four, Gavin Deen with four, Micah Eagle Boy with four and Dawson Bergum with three.

The Culbertson Cowboys couldn’t overcome a poor start and lost to Fairview, 6133, in non-conference basketball play on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Fairview accounted for the game’s first 13 points including a three-point play by Jeff Tjelde and a three-pointer by Tyler Loan.

Culbertson’s first points came on a pair of free throws by Bridger Salvevold at the 2:52 mark. The Warriors led 21-2 at the end of the opening quarter.

A 16-footer by Salvevold and a drive by Plenny Williams were highlights for Culbertson early in the second quarter. A free throw by Micah Eagle Boy and a drive by Donte Eagle Boy cut Fairview’s lead to 28-11.

After Landon Thompson and Tjelde scored for Fairview, Culbertson’s Ian Snyder connected on a three-pointer. The Warriors held a 34-14 advantage at intermission.

The Warriors then opened the third quarter with the first 13 points including six points by Tjelde, four points by Thompson and a three-pointer by Loan. Fairview went on to take a 52-20 lead at the end of the quarter.

Williams led the Cowboys with 11 points.

Also scoring for Culbertson were Salvevold with six, Snyder with five, Nyreece Halvorson with four, D. Eagle Boy with four and M. Eagle Boy with three points.

Leading Fairview were Tjelde with 18, Thompson with 15 and Loan with 10 points.
