Wolf Point’s wrestlers competed in Fairfield and Choteau during the weekend.

At a mixer in Fairfield on Thursday, Jeina Reum went 2-0. Joli Beston won her match and Jesse Reed also won his match. Tavian Bell also got a victory. Mike Bell won his two matches and Kia Villovuz got her first win of the season. Xander Hoffman and Lakekayla Mays also wrestled hard at Fairfield.

“I was pleased on the most part,” Coach Scott Vandall said. “The kids did a good job. They wrestled hard, tried some new things.”

On Friday, the Wolves wrestled in Choteau. There were a lot of teams that back out due to the weather. Wolf Point wrestled eight kids and placed six of them.

“We struggled a little bit at this meet,” Vandall said. “We had some success but had more struggles than I would have liked.”

Reum took first in her weight class. This was her first tournament championship. Villovuz wrestled well for a fourth-place finish. Mays finished sixth she got her first podium of the year. “She battled some illnesses and injuries this season. She is close to breaking out,” Vandall said.

Beston placed second on the weekend in a combined weight class. “She had a bad championship match. Not sure what happened really,” Vandall said. “The first three minutes were good, but the last three we just could seem to make it work.”

Jesse Reed took second place. He went up this weekend from 145 to 152 pounds. It was a challenge for the finals. “We just came up short,” Vandall said. “He was upset with the result. He didn’t feel he should have lost. It was a good learning experience and match.”

Mike Bell took home a third-place finish. “We lost a tough one in the semifinals. We beat that kid at Great Falls early in the year. He got the better of us that match,” Vandall said.

Tavian Bell and Xander Hoffman wrestled hard. “They are coming along. Both have been sick bugs and injuries. We keep grinding,” Vandall said.

The Wolves have a busy week at We have a busy week at Broadus on Thursday and Moorcoft, Wyo., on Friday and Saturday.
