Poplar Girls Defeat Glasgow

 

Poplar’s girls’ basketball team took control in the second half for a 56-43 league victory in Glasgow on Friday, Jan. 13.

The Indians trailed 12-8 at the end of the first quarter but gained a 20-16 advantage at the half. Poplar’s Kessie Erickson scored eight points in the first half.

Erickson opened the third quarter with two quick baskets. A basket by Erickson off an assist from Bralyn Nordwick put Poplar’s lead at 2618.

The Indians then struck on five straight points by Nordwick and a three-pointer by Cammie Martell for a 34-18 advantage.

After Glasgow pulled to 37-25, Poplar responded with a three-pointer by Bailey Dupree and a drive by C. Martell en route to a 42-27 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Scotties accounted for the first five points of the fourth quarter, but Poplar struck back on a basket by Riki Belton and a three-pointer by C. Martell for a 47-32 advantage. With the score at 51-41 at the 2:21 mark, the Indians put the contest away on a three-pointer by C. Martell and a basket by Erickson off a pass from Nordwick.

Poplar’s top scorers were Erickson with 16 and C. Martell with 14 points.

Also scoring were Nordwick with nine, Emma Martell with seven, Belton with four, Mattie Falls Down with three and Dupree with three.

Top scorers for Glasgow were Mayzie Yoakam with 22 and Joelly Chappell with 11 points.

Poplar hosts Malta on Friday, Jan. 19, and heads to Wolf Point on Saturday, Jan. 20.
