Lustre’s girls’ basketball team accounted for the game’s first eight points and never looked back in a 69-27 home victory over Dodson on Friday, Jan. 5.

The Lions got on top early on an inside basket by Alexa Reddig to open the contest. After consecutive hoops by Kencia Brown, Grace Brown put in a basket for an 8-0 advantage.

The visiting Coyotes struggled throughout the half with Lustre’s full-court pressure, but Kataya KillEagle scored at the 3:14 mark.

Super quick eighth-grader K. Brown accounted for the next four points. After Dodson’s KillEagle hit a free throw, Reddig connected on a pull-up jumper for a 14-3 margin.

The Lions ended the first quarter with an inside shot by K. Brown and a steal and basket by Lauren Fast for an 18-4 advantage.

Lustre kept rolling in the second quarter as the Lions outscored Dodson by a 17-0 margin for a 35-4 half-time lead.

A three-pointer by Aubri Holzrichter and four points by Reddig got the Lions off to a good start in the second quarter. Two hoops by G. Brown, including one off an assist from K. Brown, put the margin at 29-4.

After G. Brown took a charge, the Lions scored on a put-back by K. Brown and a drive by Lauryn Holzrichter. A free throw by A. Holzrichter and a 12-footer by K. Brown increased the gap to 35-4.

Lustre held a 51-21 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

K. Brown finished with 21 points. Reddig and L. Holzrichter added 14 points each.

Also scoring for the Lions were Fast with eight, G. Brown with six and A. Holzrichter with six.

KillEagle led Dodson with 14 points.
