Bainville Girls Defeat Froid/Lake In District 2C League Battle
In a battle of District 2C girls’ squads, Bainville fought off Froid/Lake by a 46-31 final on Saturday, Jan. 6.
The Bulldogs led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter and began taking more control in the second quarter. Hailey Berwick hit a three-pointer and a 12-footer to put Bainville up 19-11. Miah Pippenger then fired in a three-pointer for a 22-12 margin.
Lila Butikofer was good from the baseline for the Bulldogs, but Froid/Lake fought back with free throws by Brooklyn Nordwick and Mara Salvevold to cut the gap to 25-16 at intermission.
The Red Hawks pulled to 29-22 on a pair of free throws by B. Nordwick and a basket by Salvevold, but Bainville’s Addison Hansen stepped up with five straight points for a 12-point margin.
Froid/Lake kept the heat on when B. Nordwick connected from three-point range and Salvevold hit a 14-footer for a 34-27 game after three quarters of play.
After Bainville’s M. Pippenger and Froid/Lake’s Isabelle Nordwick exchanged baskets to open the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs ran off the next seven points on a hoop by Elsie Wilson, a drive by H. Berwick and a threepoint play by M. Pippenger off an assist from Wilson.
Salvevold made a 16-footer at the 2:43 mark, but Bainville put the contest away on a basket by Tally Berwick and a free throw by Wilson.
M. Pippenger led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Also scoring were H. Berwick with eight, T. Berwick with eight, Wilson with six, Brecklyn Pippenger with five, Hansen with five and Butikofer with two.
Leading Froid/Lake were Salvevold with 13 and B. Nordwick with eight. Rounding out the scoring were Addison Elvsaas with six, I. Nordwick with two and Lilly Johnson with two.
