Coming off their best season in school history, Lustre Christian’s boys’ basketball team hopes to reach its goal again this campaign.

Last year, the Lions won the Eastern C divisional championship and went on to play at the Class C state tournament.

This season’s team features 21 players. Coach Randy Reddig feels this is the second largest turnout ever. Last year, the Lions had 24 players out for the sport.

Returning starters for the Lions include senior Cayden Klatt and junior Clay Reddig. Klatt earned All-State honors last season.

Other players who saw a good amount of varsity playing action were junior Byron Ewing, senior Terran Joseph and sophomore Johnslee Pierre.

Also back for the varsity are sophomore Diek Oifert, freshman Cam Reddig, freshman Prestyn Klatt and freshman Hadden Oifert.

Coach Reddig is optimistic about this year’s squad. He describes it as very comparable to last season’s team.

“We’ve lost a lot, but we have a lot of guys coming back,” he said.

The coach said the Lions are a good mixture of youth and experience.

“A lot of these guys improved a lot,” coach Reddig said. “It should be entertaining.”

The Lions will open their season at a tournament in Glasgow. Lustre will face MonDak on Friday, Dec. 1, and Terry on Saturday, Dec. 2.

During a tournament in Scobey on Dec. 8-9, the Lions will face Broadus and Froid/Lake.
