Froid/Lake Clinches Conference Title

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks clinched the league championship with a convincing 52-6 victory over MonDak on Friday, Oct. 13.

The Red Hawks fell behind, 6-0, on a five-yard pass play early in the first quarter.

Froid/Lake responded with a scoring drive of its own. The Red Hawks scored on a 29-yard pass from Joseph Robertson to Cian Logan with 7:41 left in the first quarter.

The Thunder then drove deep inside Froid/Lake territory, but Mason Dethman tackled the runner short of the needed yardage on a fourth-down play to end the threat.

Froid/Lake finished the first quarter with a 51-yard dash by Daniel Forizs down to the MonDak 21.

Two plays into the second quarter, Dethman passed to a wide-open Nate Stentoft for a 26-yard touchdown. Dethman kicked the conversion for a 14-6 lead with 9:01 left in the half.

Dethman broke loose for a 70-yard touchdown run on Froid/Lake’s next possession. His kick increased the margin to 22-6 with 5:53 remaining in the half.

The Thunder put together a scoring threat as MonDak drove inside the Froid/Lake five, but a sack by C. Logan and a fourth-down tackle by Stentoft ended the possession.

Froid/Lake started the second half with runs by Forizs and Robertson to move inside the MonDak 10. Forizs scored on a seven-yard dash with 8:34 left in the third quarter. Dethman’s kick put the margin at 30-6.

The Red Hawks’ next score came on a fourth-down run when Robertson broke away on a sweep play for a 45yard score. Detman’s kick increased the gap to 38-6 with 3:51 left in the third quarter.

A short kickoff was fumbled by MonDak and recovered by Forizs at the MonDak 25. On fourth down from the 19, Dethman connected with Stentoft for a touchdown and a 44-6 advantage.

Froid/Lake’s final touchdown was scored by Stentoft on a 15-yard run with 4:43 remaining.

The Red Hawks will finish their regular season with a home contest against Terry on Saturday, Oct. 21.
