Thunderous Applause

Former Montana Poet Laureate and Fort Peck Assiniboine and the Sioux tribes member Mandy Smoker Broaddus (center) and coauthor Natalie Peeterse (left) recently won the High Plains Book Award for Children’s Middle Grade for their book Thunderous at a ceremony in Billings hosted by Curiosity Books/ Curiosity Inc. Media. The graphic novel, published in 2022, features a dangerous journey through the Spirit World where a young girl learns to embrace her Lakota heritage.
