The outstanding performance by Wolf Point’s Peyton Summers highlighted the day at the season-opening cross country meet in Wolf Point on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Summers, a senior, easily earned top honors in the boys’ division with a time of 16:13.82.

“It’s a great start,” Summers said after the victory.

He noted that he finished first at the meet last season with a time of about 17:30.

“I’ve been putting in the mileage during the summer,” Summers said.

He feels that he can continue to decrease his time as the season progresses.

“I’ve been doing all stamina and not any speed work yet,” Summers explained.

Harlem’s Branlin Foote finished second in the boys’ division with a time of 17:47.31.

Also in the top five were Poplar’s Miles Boxer at 19:00.18, Williston Trinity’s Kai Thomas at 19:33.13 and Poplar’s Raylando Red Eagle at 20:01.54.

Wolf Point’s Trent Hamilton finished 32nd with a time of 23:42.54. Wolf Point’s Reilly Rees ran the course in 25:14.13 for 40th place. Ezekiel Gourneau took 53rd at 29:05.20.

Scobey’s girls earned team honors as teammates Mya Green (21:39.86) and Mia Handran (21:57.91) were the meet’s top two runners.

Teams will compete at the Poplar Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 2.
