Fish Regs Public Meeting In Miles City Aug. 29
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 7 will host a 2024 Fishing Regulations public meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 29, beginning at 6 p.m. in Miles Community College Room 106.
There will be a Zoom online meeting option available for those who are unable to attend.
The 2024 Fishing Regulations, Statewide Fisheries Management Plan, and Fort Peck Management Plan will go public the week of Aug. 21, along with an Environmental Assessment for the Statewide Fisheries Management Plan.
A series of public meetings will be held around the state including a brief overview of the Statewide Fisheries Management Plan and regulations from a statewide perspective. Fish staff from Helena and Region 6 will participate in the Miles City meeting to represent the statewide and Fort Peck management plans. Region 7 staff will cover any region-specific details and close with questions.
There will be a public comment period for fishing regulations that will close on Sept. 18, and instructions on how to comment will be provided once regulations are made public. A comment period on the Statewide Fisheries Management Plan/EA will close Sept. 30. Fishing regulations will be on the Oct. 19 Fish and Wildlife Commission meeting agenda.
The Miles City meeting will cover Eastern Fishing District changes regarding ice shelter removal, spearing language and possibly a paddlefish change for the Missouri River section of the yellow tag area.
There no proposed changes centric to Region 7.
FWP will move forward with numerous paddlefish proposals and other needs next year during the 20252026 fishing regulations process.
