Area fire departments were called to large stack of hay on fire at Doug Long’s Friday evening, Aug. 11. The hay was lost likely due to a wet bale that was unnoticed. The stack was located just west of the water treatment plant east of Wolf Point. A stack of that size can vary between $10,000 to $20,000 which can be a harsh blow to a winter season of feeding animals. Roughly 250 bales were lost in total. The Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department was paged around 6 p.m. and, as of Monday at 3 p.m., the stack was fully extinguished the stack to 100 percent containment. The WPVFD was assisted by BIA Fire all day and night especially with updates.
