Remember The Importance Of Awareness

Everyone at one point in their lives has been told about the importance of awareness. Being aware of your surroundings or being aware of what you’re doing. The reason I write this article is to reiterate the importance of being aware of your surroundings.

This year, as of July 1, we have already had 20-line tear downs/broken poles due to farm equipment. We all know equipment isn’t getting any smaller and GPS/Autosteer is being used by almost all farmers. We are very fortunate that there have been no injuries or fatalities due to these accidents.

The past several years as part of our construction work plan, our line department has been concentrating on getting poles out of the farm fields. As most of you know we have over 2,800 miles of lines so it will take some time to get to them all. If you have power lines you are concerned about, please call and we will look and see what we can do.

Next time you pull into a field, be aware of the power lines and your proximity to them. Pull into the field an extra 50 feet before you unfold your sprayer or wing down your air seeder, it could save your life. Safety is very important to all the employees here at Sheridan Electric and we hope it is for you too.
