Indians Place At Baker Track Meet

Poplar accounted for 23 points in the girls’ division and nine points in the boys’ division during the Baker Invitational track meet held on Saturday, April 15.

Top teams in the girls’ division were Baker with 76, Bowman County, N.D., with 73 and Savage with 72 points.

Poplar’s Mattie Falls Down finished in first place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14:11.14 to lead the Indians.

Bailey Dupree enjoyed an excellent meet by placing third in both the 100-meter hurdles (19.19 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (52.92 seconds).

Jazmyn Carrywater earned sixth place in the 1600 at 6:15.28.

Earning top 10 honors for Poplar were Blake Follette in seventh for the 800 and eighth for the 1600, Reinita Irizarry in ninth for the 1600 and Kessee Erickson in 10th for the discus.

Topping the boys’ standings were Killdeer, N.D., with 97 points, Glendive with 89 and Bowman County with 84 points.

The 3200 race was a strong one for Poplar’s boys as Miles Boxer finished third (12:18.37), Raylando Red Eagle took fifth (12:47.17) and Eljin Grey Bear placed sixth (12:54.43).

The 1600-meter relay team consisting of Boxer, Marquis Brown, Navarjo Escarcega and Adrien Matuck finished in eighth place.

Other highlights for Poplar’s boys included Trentin Youpee taking seventh in the triple jump and Matuck finishing ninth in the 400.

The Indians will compete at the Sidney Invitational on Saturday, April 22.
