Wolf Point Hosts Youth Tournament On Saturday

The Wolf Point Basketball Club is hosting a youth basketball tournament for grades three through eight on Saturday, April 8.

The Wolf Point Spring Hoopfest will take place at gymnasiums at the Wolf Point Junior/Senior High School, Southside Elementary School, Northside Elementary School and Frontier School.

Brock Copenhaver, presidet of the WPBC, said the idea of a youth basketball tournament developed about a few years ago after the Poplar Youth Tournament and the Wolf Point Invitational decided to end their annual youth tournaments after many years.

Each of these respective tournaments had a very successful run and brought a lot of talent to the tournament, as well as the players and fans coming to town and spending several days in the community shopping, eating and lodging.

Also, while this event is a fundraiser for the WPBC, the tournament committee also plans to raise enough funds to offer post-secondary scholarships each year to area seniors who are graduating from the local high schools within the boundaries of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.

Copenhaver expressed appreciation to the many organizations and volunteers who help make this tournament possible. Donations are made for entry fees, official fees, first-place hoodies and second- place crew sweatshirt and gym fee. Volunteers officiate games and are tickettakers.
