Wolves Lose Contest Against Baker Girls


Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball season came to an end against Baker, 71-39, during action at the Class B state tournament in Great Falls on Friday, March 10.
The scoring of Madison O’Connor and Hope Gonsioroski led Baker to a 19-4 start in the first quarter. The Wolves struggled handling Baker’s full-court pressure, but a drive by Juellz Bauer closed the margin to 19-6 at the end of the period.
Bauer hit a three-pointer to give the Wolves a spark to open the second quarter, but Baker ran off the next seven points.
Free-throw shooting by J’Elle Garfield closed the margin to 26-13. A basket by Azalei Ackerman off an assist from Mahala Moran and a hoop off a rebound by Sierra Hamilton helped Wolf Point’s effort.
The Spartans held a 4219 half-time advantage and then struck for the first seven points of the third quarter.
Baker led by as many as 40 points in the third quarter, but two three-pointers by KJ. St. Marks ended the quarter on a good note for the Wolves.
St. Marks finished the contest with 12 points on four three-pointers to lead the Wolves. Hamilton also reached double figures with 10 points.
Rounding out Wolf Point’s scoring were Garfield with eight, Bauer with five, Moran with two and Ackerman with two points.
Top scorers for Baker were O’Connor with 19, Gonsioroski with 18 and Emily Enos with 11 points.
