North Country Defeats Culbertson

North Country stopped Culbertson, 63-19, in the semi-final round of the Eastern C divisional girls’ basketball tournament in Wolf Point on Thursday, March 2.

The Mavericks, using fullcourt pressure, jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter.

North Country added 12 points in the second quarter for a 25-7 advantage.

After North Country moved ahead 33-9, the Cowgirls struck on a basket by Megan Granbois and a drive by Destiny Thompson.

North Country tallied the next nine points and went on to lead 44-17 at the end of the third quarter.

Scoring for Culbertson were Perla Burciaga with six, Makena Hauge with five, Granbois with four and Thompson with four points.

Granbois grabbed seven rebounds in the game and had three steals.

Leading North Country’s attack were Paige Wasson with 21 and Teagan Erickson with 19 points.

Having four steals each for the Mavericks were Kora Labrie and Wasson.
