Cowgirls Open With Victory Over Fairview

The Culbertson Cowgirls cruised to a 49-22 victory over Fairview during the District 2C tournament on Thursday, Feb. 16.

The Cowgirls jumped out to an 11-4 lead as Megan Granbois accounted for a threepoint play with three minutes left in the first quarter.

A three-pointer by Destiny Thompson helped Culbertson hold a 14-8 lead at the end of the period.

Culbertson got off to a good start in the second period as Granbois made a nice inside move for a 16-8 lead.

A free throw by Ayden Ator and a basket by Alicyn Ator increased the gap to 19-8. Thompson then nailed a three-pointer for a 22-8 advantage.

After Fairview’s Macy Tjelde drove for a basket, the Cowgirls struck for the last six points of the half on a 14-footer by Perla Burciaga, a layup by Thompson off a pass from Hauge and a steal and layup by Hauge for a 2810 half-time advantage.

Hauge and Burciaga led Culbertson’s offensive attack in the third quarter as the Cowgirls scored 16 points for a 44-17 advantage.

Top scorers for the Cowgirls were Hauge with 12, Granbois with 11 and Thompson with 10 points.

Also scoring were P. Burciaga with nine, Alicyn Ator with three, Ayden Ator with three and Mariana Burciaga with one point.

Leaders in steals were Hauge with five, Thompson with five and Granbois with four. Leaders in assists were Hauge with four and Granbois with three.

Fairview’s top scorers were Brooklyn Anderson with six and Tjelde with four points.

Tjelde and Kallee Hopes each had six rebounds.
