Wolf Point Comes Up Short In Baker

 

In a high-scoring girls’ basketball contest, Baker fought off Wolf Point, 85-73, in Baker on Thursday, Jan, 5.

The Wolves trailed 60-52 entering the fourth quarter, but Wolf Point opened the final period with an inside basket by Sierra Hamilton and a three-pointer by J’Elle Garfield to close the margin to 60-57.

A 17-footer by Azalei Ackerman kept the heat on at 6259 with 6:30 remaining in the non-conference contest.

The Wolves came as close as 64-62 on free throws by Garfield and Hamilton. Baker then ran off the next seven points for a 71-62 margin.

Wolf Point battled back to 75-70 on five straight points by KJ St. Marks, but the Spartans held on for the victory.

Top scorers for the Wolves were Hamilton with 27 and Garfield with 22 points. Ackerman, a junior, enjoyed an excellent game with 15 points.

Also scoring were St. Marks with five, Keeley Blount-Henderson with five, Katelyn MacDonald with five and Mahala Moran with two.

Madison O’Conner, a freshman, accounted for 41 of Baker’s points. Kyal Hadley added 17 points.

Baker led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Wolf Point struck for 28 points in the second quarter for a 38-33 half-time advantage.
