Lustre Christian Fights Off Fairview, 48-42

The Lustre Lions got their offensive attack going at just the right time to edge Fairview, 48-42, during boys’ basketball action at the Scobey Invitational on Friday, Dec. 9.

Lustre enjoyed a 35-27 lead after three quarters of action, but the Warriors pulled even at 40-40 on a 12-footer by Tyler Loan with 2:34 remaining.

Lustre was able to go back ahead when Braden Ewing scored at the 2:05 mark. After Loan drove in for a hoop, the Lions answered with a 15-footer by Cayden Klatt for a 44-42 lead with 1:41 remaining.

The Lions’ Clay Reddig connected from long range for a 47-42 advantage heading into the final minute. Lustre’s defense held Fairview scoreless the rest of the way. A free throw by Reddig with 18 seconds left put the final margin at 48-42.

Lustre opened the non-conference contest with a strong start as the Lions held a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Klatt scored eight points, including two three-pointers, in the quarter, Fairview battled back with the first six points of the second period. A three-pointer by Jeff Tjelde pulled the Warriors to 18-13, but the Lions responded with a three-pointer by Klatt and a hoop by Byron Ewing. Lustre led 23-17 at the half.

Fairview trailed by only four points late in the third quarter until Lustre’s Elijah Lenihan and Jasiah Hambira connected on consecutive three-pointers. The Lions held a 35-27 advantage at the end of the period.

Klatt finished with 17 points to lead the Lions. Also scoring were Lenihan with nine, Hambira with nine, Reddig with seven, Byron Ewing with three and Braden Ewing with two.

Leading Fairview were Hunter Sharbono with 17 and Loan with 10 points.
