The Froid/Lake Red Hawks dominated action in their 5412 homecoming victory over Jordan on Saturday, Oct. 8.

“We’re getting to where we need to be,” Froid/Lake Coach Michael Reiter said. “I’m pretty excited.”

The Red Hawks’ varsity defense didn’t allow a touchdown in the league win. Senior Caden Kelm put together a standout performance for the squad.

“He’s one of our big leaders out here,” Reiter said of Kelm. “He has grown into a great leader.”

Another highlight for the Red Hawks was the return of senior Quinn Abar to help control the line of scrimmage.

“Having Quinn back is huge,” Reiter said. “He did his job and played big in the second half.”

The Red Hawks put together a 50-yard scoring drive on their first possession. After a 22-yard keeper run by quarterback Mason Dethman kept the drive alive at the Jordan 15, Froid/Lake scored on a seven-yard pass from Dethman to Nate Stentoft. Dethman kicked the conversion for an 8-0 lead.

The Mustangs scored when Nolan Kamerman returned the ensuing kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown to cut the margin to 8-6.

Neither team scored again in the first quarter, but the Red Hawks reached the end zone on a 23-yard pass play from Dethman to Austen Hobbs to open the second quarter. Dethman’s kick was good for a 16-6 lead.

The Red Hawks were soon back in business when Daniel Forizs came away with an interception and returned the ball to the Jordan two. From there, Stentoft fought his way in with 8:48 remaining in the half.

Jordan responded by driving inside the Froid/Lake 20, but standout defensive plays by Kelm and Abar stopped the possession. The running and receiving of Hobbs led the Red Hawks inside to the Mustang 32. Dethman then displayed fancy footwork for a 23-yard gain to the nine. Kelm scored on a two-yard run for a 30-6 advantage with 2:19 left in the half.

The hard running of Hobbs highlighted Froid/Lake’s 56yard scoring drive to open the third quarter. A 12-yard dash by Forizs resulted in the touchdown. Dethman passed to Kelm on the conversion for a 37-6 lead with 8:17 left in the third quarter.

A 26-yard pass from Jason Murnion to Simon Harbaugh gave the Mustangs a first down at the Froid/Lake one. Three stops by Abar along with a fourth-down sack by Dethman and Stentoft kept the Mustangs out of the end zone.

A long pass from Dethman to Hobbs advanced the ball to near midfield. Runs by Cody Olson resulted a first down at the Jordan 28. Dethman did an excellent job of changing directions on a 28-yard touchdown run with 3:11 left in the period. Dethman’s kick was good for a 45-6 lead.

The Mustangs reached the end zone on a 13-yard run by Ethan Stanton to end the third quarter at 45-12.

Olson scored the game’s final touchdown on a 20-yard run with 5:52 remaining. Dethman passed to Stentoft for the conversion and a 52-12 margin. A bad snap by Jordan put the ball out of the end zone for a safety with 3:58 remaining.

The Red Hawks will travel to Lambert for a game against Richey/Lambert at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.
