Wolves Run To 38-14 Homecoming Win Over Colstrip

What a way to celebrate homecoming! Wolf Point’s defense forced four turnovers and held Colstrip scoreless for the first three quarters to win 38-14 on Friday, Sept. 16.

The Wolves accounted for the game’s first 38 points in the non-conference victory.

“Homecoming is always a fun one to win,” Wolf Point Coach Anthony Red Cloud said. “It feels good to get the win for our fans.”Juliun Benson interception two passes, Gaige Bushman had one interception and Michael Bell recovered a fumble for the Wolves.

“Our defense has really stepped up,” Red Cloud said. “Our defense is getting them to turn the ball over.”

After a scoreless first quarter, the Wolves took over on their own 38 when strong defensive plays by Charlie Page, Kraven Silk and Bell forced Colstrip to give the ball over on downs. Quarterback keeper runs by Benson produced a first down at the Colstrip 25.

Corey Martell gained eight yards to the 17 to bring up a second-and-short play. A diving catch in the end zone by Bushman was good for a touchdown with 6:57 left in the half. Preston Swenson’s kick put the margin at 8-0.

After a short punt by the Colts, the Wolves earned a first down at the Colstrip 29 on runs by Maddox Reum and Martell. Bushman then made an aerobatic catch at the seven. Two plays later, the Wolves scored on a threeyard pass play from Benson to Martell. Swenson’s kick was good for a 14-0 lead with 3:05 left in the half.

The Wolves were back in business again when Bushman intercepted a pass at the Wolf Point 37. The drive stayed alive on a fourth-down pass from Benson to Silk for eight yards to the Colstrip 28. Benson then broke away for a touchdown run with 1:01 remaining in the quarter.

Benson then intercepted a pass to give Wolf Point possession at the Colstrip 19. Benson connected with Martell for an 18-yard completion down to the one. Benson fought his way into the end zone with 21 seconds left in the half. Swenson’s kick increased the gap to 28-0.

After a fumble recover by Bell, Swenson connected on a 32-yard field goal to end the half at 31-0.

The Wolves accounted for a 74-yard scoring drive in the third quarter with the running of Reum and Martell leading the way. With second down on the Colstrip one, Benson rolled out and hit Logan Brown for a touchdown with 4:21 left in the third quarter.

Swenson kicked the conversion for a 38-0 margin.

The Colts got on the scoreboard when quarterback Trevin Bradley scored from one yard out with 7:14 remaining.

Colstrip’s Ty Borge reached the end zone on a six-yard reverse run with 1:33 left. Bradley passed to Hunter Link for the two-point conversion.

Benson enjoyed an excellent offensive game for the Wolves as the senior rushed for 76 yards and passed for 84 yards.
