Poplar’s volleyball team played very well for two sets but fell to Scobey in non-conference action on Friday, Sept. 2.

The Spartans came away with a 25-8, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15, victory.

After Scobey won the first set, the Indians struck for five straight points on a block by Kessee Erickson, three aces by Morgen Nordwick and a tip by EmmaRae Martell to gain a 13-10 lead.

The hitting of Camrie Holum led Scobey to a 22-19 advantage, but Poplar battled back and tied the game, 22-22, on a kill by Braelyn Nordwick and an ace by Rebecca Gorder.

Two kills by Erickson down the stretch gave Poplar a 27-25 victory in the second set.

Kills by M. Nordwick kept the Indians close in the third set as Poplar took a 12-11 advantage. After the Spartans went up 18-14, Martell scored a kill to cut the gap to 18-15.

Scobey earned a 24-18 lead en route to a 25-20 win in the third set.

The Spartans jumped out to a 23-12 lead in the fourth set. Poplar fought back to 23-15 on an ace by Morgan Russell and a block by B. Nordwick. Scobey finished strong for a 25-15 final.

The Indians will compete at a tournament in Scobey on Saturday, Sept. 10.
