School Works To Fill Positions

With a little more than a month before the start of the school year, the Wolf Point School District is still advertising for many teaching positions.

In last week’s newspaper, the list of advertised openings included a kindergarten teacher, two 1-3 grade elementary teachers, an elementary special education teacher, two physical education teachers, two fourth-sixth grade teachers, a Native American studies/language teacher, a high school English teacher, a high school math teacher, a high school special education teacher, a speech and language pathologist and a K-12 school counselor. In addition, the school district is also planning to add a new position, an Indian Education For All coordinator.

At this time last year, the school district was looking to hire a similar amount of 11 instructors compared to the current list of 15 positions.

“It’s about the same,” Cheri’ Nygard, Wolf Point’s clerk and business manager, said.

The state requires school districts to advertise for positions that are already occupied with emergency authorization instructors.

The first day of school for teachers is Aug 15. The first day of school for students is Aug. 22.

Other openings in the school district included Southside secretary, Northside secretary, food services director, assistant custodians, instructional paraprofessionals and Southside family-school coordinator. Substitute teachers are also needed.

The school district is also advertising for a route bus driver, an activity bus driver and a shuttle/cold weather bus driver.
