MHSA Announces Rules Changes

 

The Montana High School Association’s executive board made several decisions during a meeting on June 22.

The board awarded the 2023 Class C state golf tournament to Anaconda Hills Golf Course in Great Falls for May 15-17.

The decision was made to return Class A basketball and volleyball to eight-team state tournament formats. There will be a play-in game between West #5 and East #4 prior to the state tournament.

The first year of high school baseball next year is expected to include 18 teams to be divided into three divisions. Eight teams will qualify for a state tournament. The first girls’ flag football season will consist of three teams.

The board approved in Class B/C new qualifying language for the state wrestling tournament. Class B/C will base the number of state qualifiers on the equitable distribution of qualifiers formula for each weight class.

The EDQ formula will be a total of divisional participants divided by total potential qualifiers in both divisions multiplied by 16 (the number of state qualifiers) with no less than six per division.
