The Thundering Buffalo Health and Wellness Center in Poplar keeps making more offerings for the area.

Dietitian Christine Bauer says the center will soon start a Prescription For Good Health program for children and elders.

“It’s a 10- to 12-week program for the highest risk Medicaid clients,” Bauer said.

Referrals, not self-referrals, are needed to participate in the program at this point.

“Eventually, it will be a public thing, but not yet,” she added.

Services will include dental assessments, nutrition, mental health, medical and fitness.

Increase in using the Thundering Buffalo Health and Wellness Center remains steady. Average attendance is about 50-75 people each day.

Operating hours for the gym, fitness area and walking track are 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Swimming pool hours are 4:30-7 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Lap swimming is 11:30-12:15 p.m., and 12:30-1:15 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Open swimming is 1:30-4:15 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The facility is closed on Wednesdays. The pool is also closed on Thursdays.

The favorite activity for children at the facility is the swimming pool.

“A lot of kids wait for the pool to open,” Bauer said.

The gym is also a busy place for children.

Favorites for adults are the weight rooms and saunas.
