Babe Ruth Team Plays Home Contests Against Glasgow

The Wolf Point Yellow Jackets’ Babe Ruth dropped two games against the Glasgow Nemont team during home action on Sunday, May 17.
“We struggled in the first game. We did do a lot better this week with not having so many errors. The kids just couldn’t get themselves back into the game in the first one,” Wolf Point Coach Scott Vandall said. “We fell behind and couldn’t make it up. Give the Glasgow kids credit, they got on top and put the gas pedal down.”
Wolf Point lost by a 12-1 final.
Game 2 was a closer contest as the Yellow Jackets led early in the game.
“We were right there in the game. We had a two-run lead and couldn’t get over a play from the half inning before,” Vandall said. “We lost a little composure and gave up a two-run lead and went down by two. We battled back and lost by one in a seven-inning game.”
Vandall noted, “We are very proud of these kids, they played good. We did make some mistakes. But we improved from the last weekend game. We have a lot fewer passed balls from our catcher. We made a lot better throws to first. There is still room for improvement and we are getting there. We need to have short term memory on calls that don’t go our way and just play ball.”
Of its nine players in the field, Wolf Point had only three or four who have played at the Babe Ruth level.
“So, we’re going to get better the more we play, the better we will get,” Vandall said. “We had a bunch of fans out at our first home game and we loved it. It may of got them a little nervous but hey that’s great.”
Wolf Point plays home starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 27.
“Let’s pack the park with hometown fans and have some more fun,” Vandall said. “Thanks to all that where there and supported us. We loved it.”
