Tennis Team Prepares For Divisional

 

The Wolf Point Wolves won six of their 12 tennis matches during action in Williston last week.

The doubles’ team of Kaylee Johnson and Kaleah Miller-Toves posted victories by scores of 6-1, 6-4, and 6-2, 6-2.

The doubles’ team of Hamyanie Campbell and Mahala MacDonald won their two matches by scores of 6-3, 6-1, and 6-0, 6-2.

Claire Kinzie and Laykin Cantrell split their two doubles’ matches.

In singles’ play, Mercedes Sutton went 1-1 for the day.

Victoria Wozniak and Jaycen Williams had 0-2 records.

Wolf Point traveled to Miles City for a tennis invitational.

“All of our starting varsity singles are first-year players,” Wolf Point Coach Dan Horsmon said. “They have developed nicely through the season.”

Freshman Jaycen Williams played some seasoned opponents and came up a little short going winless for the day.

Senior Laykin Cantrell played three matches and went 0-3.

Senior Claire Kinzie went 0-3 playing some close matches.

Freshman Mercedes Sutton also played three matches, winning one and losing two.

Senior Hamyanie Campbell played a nice match against Red Lodge and earned a victory.

The sophomore team of Kaylee Johnson and Kaleah Toves Miller had a nice day going 1-1 for the day to earn the number one seed for divisionals.

Campbell and junior Mahala MacDonald also played well, going 2-1 for the day “Looking forward to divisionals this weekend in Miles City. The goal is always to get as many players to state as possible,” Horsmon said. “This year we get to take the top five singles and top five doubles to state, which will be held in Bozeman this year.”

Next year, eighth graders can play high school tennis. “I encourage anyone interested in playing high school tennis to see me at school. I will be having a mini camp and giving lessons to girls interested in playing tennis next year. We would love to have big numbers,” Horsmon said.
