Penny Ronning, a candidate for Montana Congressional District 2, visited Wolf Point High School Thursday, May 5. She was touring the area speaking to classrooms and participating in local activities designed to highlight National Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Day. WPHS teacher Tressa Welch said Ronning spoke to students, attempting to shed light on a painful issue. “As a Native American female and teacher, I was happy to be able to give the kids truth on real life matters that are happening on our reservations,” said Welch. “It’s not an easy topic.”

Welch said the visit was organized with support from WPHS principal Kim Hanks and superintendent Loverty Erickson.

Ronning also participated in a Prayer Walk in Poplar May 5 in honor of MMIP Day. “Too many mothers have lost children,” said Ronning via social media. “Too many fathers have lost children. Too many families grieve and too many families live with the unknown every day.”

Ronning is a former Billings City Council member.
