Committee Discusses Lobby Improvements, Tennis Courts

The Wolf Point School’s facilities committee took another step on Wednesday, Feb. 23, with discussions regarding improving the high school’s lobby area.

The plan, which needs to be approved by the school board, costs an estimated $37,000 and includes a new case with lighting for “Wolfie.” The project will also feature a wall mural, flags and new paint for the lobby.

Wolf Point superintendent of schools Loverty Erickson notes that the improvements were partly based on comments from students on a way to increase school pride. The project might be started in June.

Eric Peterson, activities director, asked about improving the floor that has been in place since 1969.

Erickson said flooring isn’t in the current proposal, but the committee could consider contacting a flooring company in the future.

Another project discussed was building four tennis courts. Century Construction estimated the project would cost about $300,000 including fencing.

Peterson explained four courts are needed to hold divisional and other tournaments. It hasn’t been determined where to place the tennis courts.

Officials noted a master plan is needed to determine the location of projects such as the tennis courts and weight room expansion.

Erickson shared suggested projects by school principals.

“We’re just putting all the cards on the table now. That’s what we’re doing,” Erickson said.

Suggestions for Southside Elementary School include new restrooms, new door handles, folding chairs, new lighting and a sprinkler system.

Possible improvements at Northside Elementary School include LED lights in the hallways, windows and door handles.
