Wolves Drop Non-Conference Game In Scobey

Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team fell at Scobey, 51-47, in an extremely fast-paced contest held in Scobey on Saturday, Jan. 15.

“We came up just short,” Wolf Point Coach Troy Blount said. “We had our opportunities, but we will definitely bounce back.”

The Wolves ended the third quarter of the non-conference game on a high note when a three-pointer by Juliun Benson and a top-of-thekey shot by Gaige Bushman produced a 39-38 lead.

The Spartans gained a fourpoint lead on hoops by Bo Anderson and Hudson Kjos, but Wolf Point’s Kelby Bauer answered with a three-pointer to pull to 45-44 with 3:23 left.

After Scobey built a 49-44 advantage, Jaxon Azure fired in a three-pointer to cut the gap to 49-47 with 1:12 to play.

The Wolves had a chance to tie or move ahead but turned the ball over. Two free throws by Reagan Machart gave Scobey a 51-47 lead with only two seconds left.

Bauer led the Wolves with 18 points and Benson scored 12 points. Azure finished with eight points.

Also scoring for Wolf Point were Bushman with five, Kraven Silk with two and Corey Martell with two.

The Wolves trailed by a 1612 margin at the end of the opening quarter. Consecutive three-pointers by Bauer put Wolf Point up 25-22 midway into the second period. After Scobey regained the lead, a three-pointer off the backboard by Benson put the halftime score at 28-28.

The Spartans held a 36-31 advantage in the third quarter until the outside shooting of Bushman and Benson put the Wolves ahead at the end of the period.
