State Purchases COVID Rapid Tests

The State of Montana has purchase of 650,000 COVID-19 rapid tests to be distributed to county public health departments. Because of provisions in the American Rescue Plan, the state has access to testing supplies and funding opportunities to purchase these supplies so Montanans can receive tests for free.

Starting on Jan. 19, Americans can order a COVID test online at COVIDTests.gov. Tests will be mailed directly to households and will typically ship within 7 to 12 days of ordering. To ensure broad access, the program will limit the number of tests sent to each residential address to four tests. This is just one program for people to get tests — not the only program. To ensure equity, the Biden Administration will launch a free call line and work with local organizations to support the nation’s hardest-hit and highest-risk communities.

Private health insurance companies will be required to cover at-home COVID-19 tests for free effective Jan. 15. The Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services established a website, cms.gov, to answer frequently asked questions.
