Poplar’s Girls Fall Short In League Games

Poplar’s girls’ basketball squad dropped conference games against Malta and Glasgow during the weekend.

Poplar’s girls’ basketball team lost to a strong Malta squad, 78-36, on Friday, Jan. 14.

Malta gained a 22-4 advantage in the first quarter. The Indians closed the margin to 34-22 during the second quarter. The M-ettes then struck for 27 points in the third quarter for a 61-30 lead.

Top scorers for Poplar were Mattie Fallsdown and Morgen Nordwick with eight points each. Also scoring were Rikki Belton with six, Kassee Erickson with six, Allie Azure with two and Jazmyn Carrywater with two.

Leading Malta were Allison Kunze with 20, Addy Anderson with 15 and Justine Lamb with 12 points.

Glasgow outscored the Indians by a 58-36 final on Saturday, Jan. 15. Poplar jumped out to a 1410 lead in the first quarter but trailed 28-20 at the half.

The Scotties accounted for 22 points in the third quarter for a 50-26 advantage.

Top scorers for Poplar were Belton with 13 and Nordwick with nine. Rounding out the scoring were Erickson with four, Teagan Escarega with three, Bailey Dupree with two, Carrywater with two, Azure with two and Fallsdown with one.
