The Poplar Indians came away with the girls’ wrestling tournament championship at the Cut Bank Invitational during the weekend. The Indians finished with 49 points. Havre and Simms each scored 45 points.

Jazmin Gorder won the first-place title at 113 pounds. In her first two matches, Gorder pinned Choteau’s Arionna Gomes in 1:19 and Heart Butte’s Rita Bustos in 35 seconds.

Gorder then pinned Harlem’s Izzy Baker in 35 seconds during semi-final round action. Gorder earned a 10-6 decision over Cascade’s Lily Grismer in the championship.

Angelina Escarcega placed second at 103 pounds. The freshman pinned Chinook’s Grace Buck in 23 seconds during the first round. Escarcega then lost on a tough 2-0 decision against Simms’ Harley Wade.

Escarcega pinned Lewistown’s Rebecca Birdwells in three minutes to take second.

Precious Keiser took fourth place at 145 pounds. After losing her first-round match on a pin, Keiser pinned Simms’ Morgan Feist in 4:47. Keiser then defeated harlem’s Amilia Blackcrow on a 9-5 decision.

Keiser was pinned by Lewistown’s Lidia D’Hooge in the next round, but Keiser pinned Cut Bank’s Madison Price in 42 seconds for fourth place.
