Poplar’s boys’ basketball team rolled past Frazer, 8137, in non-conference action held in Poplar on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

The Indians gained a 47-25 half-time lead en route to the non-conference victory.

“We got to continued to work on things and our new offense,” Poplar Coach Gib Medicine Cloud said. “Everybody played well in their roles, which is what we need.”

Poplar accounted for the game’s first eight points on a basket by Dennis Red Eagle, a drive Kaniel Ricker, a fastbreak hoop by Delray Lilley and a basket by Preston Ogle.

After John Hotomanie scored for the Bearcubs, three-pointers by Ricker and Ogle put the margin at 16-2.

Behind by a 20-5 score, the Bearcubs battled back to 20-9 on hoops by Keein Ackerman and Ryker Ackerman. A three-pointer by Hotomanie pulled the Bearcubs to 2612 at the end of the opening quarter.

Poplar struck for the first five points of the second period on a three-pointer by William Youngman and a basket by Adrian Mutuck. After five straight points by Frazer’s Hotomanie, the Indians pulled away to a 4119 advantage with a pair of three-pointers by Geordy Medicine Cloud highlighting the surge.

The Indians ended the half with a basket by Walker Burshia for a 47-25 advantage.

Poplar struck for 26 more points in the third quarter to increase their lead.

Medicine Cloud led Poplar with 15 points. Also reaching double figures were Ricker with 14, Lilley with 12 and Burshia with 11 points.
