The Wolf Point Wolves had a full weekend of wrestling in Fort Benton and Great Falls.

During action in Fort Benton, the Wolves went 7-3 as a team.

Samantha Reed was able to wrestle her first two matches and knock off some rust. She won both matches. Joli Beston won her one match.

“It was a solid match for her,” Wolf Point coach Scott Vandall said.

Mason Garfield had one match and won handily. Jordan Davis had two good matches. He lost both but Davis wrested hard.

“He is pretty banged up. He is wrestling through some tenderness. Jordan is an ironman,” Vandall said. Maddox Reum was able to get some work in Fort Benton. He had two matches to see how his injury felt. Chance Smith went 1-1.

“I’m not sure what happened on the first match, but chance didn’t wrestle well,” Vandall said. “He came back his last match and got the job done. “

During the Great Falls’ CMR Holiday Classic, the Wolves had only two matches on Friday due to only being able to have one wrestler to each weight class. Davis and Garfield were both in a 64-man bracket. Davis wrested hard and went 0-2.

“Jordan just didn’t have the luck of the draw. He wrestled hard, did a good job,” Vandall said.

Garfield won his first two matches handily.

“Then we finally got a shot at the Glasgow kid that’s ranked second in Class B/C. We lost that match by two,” Vandall said. “He was right there. It was a good scramble at the end that went their way.”

Garfield came back Saturday and won his wrestle back against the fourth ranked wrestler in B/C. Garfield then wrestled the fourth ranked wrestler in Class AA. He lost on a close decision. Garfield then beat a wrestler from Billings Senior for fifth place.

“Mason is right there, a scramble or two go different and those matches he lost are different,” Vandall said.

The girls wrestled on Saturday, the first all girls’ CMR Holiday Classic. There were 160 female competitors. The girls division has not disappointed this year as girls are getting after it.

Reed lost her two matches. “She wasn’t the same Sam,” Vandall said. “This meet is hard. And a long bus ride just doesn’t help.”

Beston had probably the hardest bracket on both sides. The bracket included two state champions, two second-place finishers, two third-place finishers and two sixth-place finishers. Beston went 2-3.

“She hurt her shoulder pretty good. At fist, I thought she was done for at least a month. But she was checked by the trainers and they were reassuring that nothing was out and all looked good,” Vandall said. “I forfeited her last match for fifth/sixth. Joli is a competitor. She got hurt and with 16 seconds left and she was like I can finish this match and was pretty heartbroken when I wouldn’t let her. She was even more mad that I wouldn’t let her wrestle the last match. It’s just too early in the season to have a serious injury. Live to fight another day,” Vandall said.

Smith and Davis were at the JV matches. Smith went 1-1 before getting a knee in the head. Davis had two matches and lost both.

“Jordan just can’t seem to catch a break right now, he had two kids that have defending state champions for work-out partners,” Vandall said. “We did good things, just made little mistakes in both matches. He will be all right.”

The Wolves are looking forward to the holiday break.

“We are banged up a bit and can use this time to learn and get healthy for the last part of the grind,” Vandall said.
