After a solid start, Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team lost at home against Malta, 65-48, on Saturday, Dec. 18.

The Wolves jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a three-pointer by Kraven Silk and a drive by Juliun Benson.

After Malta’s 6-7 senior Connor Tuss scored at the 4:38 mark, Wolf Point’s Kelby Bauer connected on a three-pointer for an 8-2 lead.

The Mustangs tied the game with the last six points of the opening quarter.

After Malta scored the first six points of the second period, Benson accounted for a three-point play to bring the Wolves back to 14-11.

A drive by Corey Martell cut the margin to 15-13 with 2:21 left in the first half.

The Mustangs went on to earn a 21-15 half-time advantage.

After a baseline jumper by Benson opened the third quarter, Malta accounted for the game’s next 15 points for a 36-17 lead.

The Wolves scored the next five points on a three-point play by Bauer along with a steal and drive by Martell.

Malta scored 10 of the last 11 points of the quarter for a 46-23 margin.

Wolf Point’s top scorers were Bauer with 14 and Benson with 12 points.

Also scoring for the Wolves were Jaxon Azure with five, Gaige Bushman with five, Martell with five, Silk with three and Ethan Blount with two.

Top scorers for Malta were Tuss with 15 and Jared Eggebrecht with 13 points.
