Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team outscored Poplar by a 75-52 margin for a road conference win on Friday, Dec. 17.

After leading by only a 17-15 margin at the end of the first quarter, the Wolves started to take control with the first eight points of the second period on six points by Juliun Benson and a drive by Kelby Bauer.

The scoring of Dennis Red Eagle and Delray Lilley kept the Indians close at 29-21, but the Wolves then accounted for the next 11 points on a free throw by Gaige Bushman, three points by Ethan Blount and three-pointers by Bauer and Benson. Wolf Point led 42-26 at intermission.

The Wolves increased the gap to 54-28 with 12 of the first 14 points of the third quarter. Five points by Benson and a three-pointer by Jaxon Azure highlighted the outburst.

Poplar battled back with the last 10 points of the quarter to pull to 59-40. William Youngman scored five of the points.

The Indians kept the heat on with the first four points of the fourth quarter on three points by Red Eagle and a free throw by Kaniel Ricker.

A drive by Benson and a three-pointer by Cory Martell put the Wolves up 64-44. After a hoop by Poplar’s Youngman, Wolf Point gained a 6944 lead on a three-pointer by Benson and a basket by Jack Sprague with 2:55 remaining.

Benson accounted for 28 to lead the Wolves. Also reaching double figures were Bauer with 11 and Azure with 10.

Others scoring were Blount with eight, Martell with seven, Kraven Silk with four, Sprague with four and Bushman with three.

Leading the Indians were Red Eagle with 13, Lilley with 12 and Youngman with 11. Also scoring were Preston Ogle with nine, Ricker with four and Geordy Medicine Cloud with three.
