There are students who take an active role at Wolf Point High School. Then, there’s Hamyanie Campbell who is involved to an extreme.

Campbell holds the position of president for the school’s student council, senior class and National Honor Society.

“I feel it suits me because I can be bossy,” Campbell said of holding the offices.

She is proud of the work that these groups have accomplished. On one recent Saturday, she was kept busy because the National Honor Society sold fundraiser drawing tickets at the Optimist Club’s bazaar and then served tables at the NEMHS Foundation’s gala dinner.

“I really like the bazaar and seeing everybody supporting small businesses,” Campbell said.

Along with being a top student in the classroom, Campbell learns other lessons through two job shadowing opportunities. About twice a week, she assists a teacher by reading to students at Southside Elementary School.

“I just love kids and I know most of them from the pool,” said Campbell, who is a lifeguard during the summer.

Between her being a standout in sports and this year’s homecoming queen, she feels that some of the young students look up to her.

“It makes me feel proud,” Campbell said. “I’m not a stereotypical mean high school kid, but I’m a role model.”

Her other job shadowing position is working with occupational therapist Kaitlyn Haynie at the hospital.

Campbell observes the work being done. She is considering studying occupational therapy. As far as high school sports, she competes in volleyball, cross country, basketball and track.

Campbell says she doesn’t have a favorite sport but then teases friend Jaylee Azure that her favorite sport is whenever she is on the same team as Jaylee.

Campbell also enjoys playing softball during summer months.

“We’re really good and it’s not so stressful. It’s fun,” she explained.

Her favorite class is painting. Her favorite teachers are Dan Horsmon and Vivian Schultz.

She is glad that she attends school at Wolf Point High School.

“It gives the most support with all the teachers and coaches,” Campbell said of the school. “And I love the office ladies.”
