Poplar Wrestlers Compete In Sidney

 

Poplar’s wrestling squad opened its season at the Eagle Invitational in Sidney on Friday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 4.

Jacob Berger earned fifth place in the heavyweight division. After receiving a firstround bye, Berger pinned Lockwood’s Bryan Escobar in 22 seconds and defeated Lake Stevens’ Amer Khdair, on a 9-3 decision.

Berger lost in the semi-final round on a pin against Miles City’s Gabe Walker. Berger went on to pin Post Falls’ Austin Portner in 1:57 in the fifth-place match.

Navarjo Escarcega posted a 2-3 record for eighth place at 120 pounds. He won one match on a pin and another match on a major decision.

Jase Frederick had a record of 1-2 at 126 pounds. He pinned Laurel’s Noah Michaelson in a second-round match.

Kameron Reum posted a mark of 1-2 at 138 pounds. He pinned Hardin’s Chase Wells in a first-round match.

Poplar placed 20th in the team standings with 32 points.

The top three teams at the Eagle Invitational were Columbia, Idaho with 198.5 points, Post Falls, Idaho, with 176 points and Sidney with 172 points.

The Indians will compete at a mixer in Wolf Point on Thursday, Dec. 9, and at the Glasgow Invitational this weekend.
