The Wolf Point Wolves put up a good fight before falling to Malta in four sets at the District 2B volleyball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 30.

The Wolves placed third in the tournament and will compete at the divisional tournament in Glasgow starting on Thursday, Nov. 4.

Wolf Point will take on Fairfield at 3:15 p.m. in the firs round of the divisional tournament.

Glasgow defeated Malta in the district championship match.

Malta downed Wolf Point by a 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21 margin.

An ace by Hamyanie Campbell and a kill by J’Elle Garfield got the Wolves as close as 23-19 in the first set, but Malta held on for a 25-21 victory.

The Wolves jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first game on a kill by Garfield and a spike by Sarah Williamson. Ahead by a 6-3 margin, Wolf Point increased the gap to 11-3 on the hard serving of Sierra Hamilton.

Malta was able to pull to 12-8 on kills by Allison Kunze and Madison Williamson.

Wolf Point led by only a 23- 21 margin until a kill by Adeia Erickson and a block by Garfield ended the second set.

After the M-Ettes jumped out to a lead in the third set, a kill by Hamilton and an ace by Garfield cut the gap to 2015.

A kill by Skylie Lefdahl and a block by Justin Lamb put Malta up 24-17. After a kill by Jaylee Azure put the score at 24-19, Malta ended the set on a block by Kunze.

The Wolves were down 1817 in the fourth set, but Wolf Point responded with a kill by Erickson and two aces by Williamson for a 20-18 advantage.

The serving of Kunze and the net play of Lefdahl led Malta to the 25-21 win.

Garfield led the Wolves with 13 kills. Hamilton finished with four aces and four blocks.

Kylie Rodenberg had 25 assists. Having 15 digs each were Garfield and Katelyn MacDonald.

Malta’s Kunze and Lamb had 11 kills each. Kunze had four aces and 10 digs.
