Wolf Point’s boys earned the top three individual finishes to highlight the Poplar Invitational cross-country meet on Saturday, Sept. 4.

Sophomore Peyton Summers finished first with a personal best time of 17:24.18. Summers has his sights on the school record of 16:57 held by Zander Ackerman.

“I’m going for Zander’s record,” Summers said of one of his goals.

Kholby Spotted Wolf, a junior, placed second at 17:46.93.

He said he improved his time by about 30 seconds from last week. “I think I’ve started training and eating right,” Spotted Wolf said.

Ethan Blount, a senior, placed third at 18:24.48. The top three finishes at the meet received medals.

“I kept telling myself, ‘I want the medal, I want the medal,’ ” Blount said. “I love when we come in 1, 2 and 3.”

Wolf Point’s Kelby Bauer finished 12th at 19:37.75.

Freshman Jack Bow placed 62nd at 37:06.71.

The Wolves took second in the team standings with 59 points. Glasgow was first with 30 points.

Brockton’s Charles Clark placed 57th at 28:44.53 and Quannah First That Walks placed 58th at 29:42.56.

In the girls’ division, Wolf Point’s Hamyanie Campbell finished ninth with a time of 22:58.15 in her first meet of the season.

“I’m excited,” Campbell said, noting that she has room to improve.

She was pleased that she finished just ahead of her “sister” Mattie Falls Down of Poplar, who had a time of 22:58.60.

“It was fun. We’ve been wanting all season to match up,” Campbell said.

Wolf Point’s junior Piper Ruffing took 15th at 24:03.64.

Frazer’s Alyssa Toce Blount placed 25th at 26:23.42. Shakira Beston was 44th at 28:14.11. Angel Nelligan was 47th at 29:90.32. Kalianna Toce Blount took 50th at 29:28.70.

Brockton’s Lucille Hart finished 58th at 30:53.03.

Wolf Point will compete in Havre on Saturday, Sept. 11.
