The Wolf Point Wolves played one of their best halves of football in the past few seasons before falling to Baker, 40-6, at home on Friday, Sept. 3.

“After the first half, we were in it,” Wolf Point Coach Anthony Red Cloud said. “That’s a positive to have the first game we were still in it at half-time for awhile.”

The Wolves trailed by a 21-6 margin at intermission.

“The entire team itself played a lot harder tonight,” Red Cloud said.

After the Spartans took a 13-0 during the game’s first seven minutes of action, Baker gained possession again when Caleb Rost recovered a fumble in Wolf Point’s backfield. A 13-yard run by Jaren Lingle put Baker inside Wolf Point territory.

The Wolves then made a stand. Strong defensive play by Michael Bell and Charlie Page created a fourth-andtwo situation. Bell, a freshman, then tackled Donnie Steen for a two-yard loss to stop Baker’s drive.

The defensive plays fired up the Wolves and the team’s sideline as Wolf Point quickly moved deep inside Baker territory on runs by Mason Garfield and Page. On a thirdand- one play from the four, Page scored to close the margin to 13-6 with 11:17 left in the first half.

On Wolf Point’s next possession, the Wolves drove inside Baker territory again with the line creating running holes for Page. The threat, however, ended when a fourth-down run came up short.

The Spartans went on to score on a nine-yard dash by Guy Lesh with 1:57 remaining in the half. Quarterback Jaxson Tronstad passed to Quinn Griffith for a twopoint conversion to put the margin at 21-6.

Baker opened the second half with a 46-yard touchdown run by Lesh for a 27-6 margin.

After an interception by Garrett Lesh, Griffith battled in on a two-yard run to put Baker up by a 33-6 advantage.

The Spartans then gained possession on an interception by Rory Lingle and went on to score on a four-yard run by Steen. Colin Lorbiecke kicked the conversion for a 40-6 margin with 3:19 left in the third quarter.

Wolf Point’s defense kept playing hard in the fourth quarter against the solid Baker squad.

Page led the Wolves with 81 yards rushing while Garfield finished with 73 yards on the ground.

Page was Wolf Point’s top tackler in the contest.

“He played his heart out,” Red Cloud said of Page.

The Wolves will head to Colstrip on Friday, Sept. 10.
