The Lady Wolves opened their home volleyball schedule on a high note by beating Baker, 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 27-25, on Friday, Sept. 3.

“We worked on transition all week, we did that so much better, and our blocking was better,” Wolf Point Coach Kim Hanks said. “It was a good team win.”

Wolf Point accounted for the non-conference match’s first six points on the serving of Katelyn MacDonald along with the net play of Sierra Hamilton and J’Elle Garfield.

Baker, however, fought back and took a 14-10 lead. The Wolves responded with a spike by Adeia Erickson, a block by Kaleah Miller-Toves and a great save by Sarah Williamson to grab a 15-14 advantage.

After Baker took a 19-18 lead, the Wolves battled back with a tip by Kylie Rodenberg, two kills by Garfield and an ace by Rodenberg to move ahead 23-19. With the score at 24-21, a kill by Hamilton ended the first game.

The serving of MacDonald and net play of Hamilton led the Wolves to a 19-12 advantage in the second set. The Spartans battled back for a 19-19 deadlock.

A serve by Hamyanie Campbell put the Wolves up 22-21. Ahead 23-22, Wolf Point accounted for the last two points on a kill by Garfield and a rotation error by Baker.

The Spartans tallied the last four points of the third set to earn a 25-19 victory.

After a spike by Miller- Toves put Wolf Point ahead 11-6 in the fourth game, Baker pulled to an 11-9 margin. The Wolves responded with kills by Hamilton and Garfield for a 16-12 lead.

Baker captured a 23-22 lead on a kill by Payton Janeway, but kills by Hamilton and Williamson produced a 24-24 deadlock.

With the fourth set even at 25-25, two aces by Hamilton ended the match.

Hamilton and Garfield led the Wolves with nine kills each. Hamilton had four blocks in the victory.

MacDonald finished with 10 aces and 20 digs. Rodenberg had 28 set assists.

Baker’s Janeway accounted for 16 kills, six aces and six digs. Kaytlynn Gaub had 25 assists.

The Wolves will host Class C power Plentywood on Friday, Sept. 10.
